We have been conducting ‘Sensory Circuits’ for pupils during form time to ensure they start the day feeling energised and focused. This 15-minute session is particularly beneficial following the pupils’ taxi rides to school, as it helps to effectively initiate the school day. Each session is divided into three distinct sections, each lasting five minutes: Alerting, Organising, and Calming.
The Organising section is designed to provide vestibular and proprioceptive stimulation, thereby preparing the brain for learning. For example, activities such as bouncing on a mini trampoline are included. Additionally, this section encompasses tasks that require motor sensory processing, balance, and timing, such as balancing on a beam.
The Calming section is crucial as it provides input that helps the pupils leave the circuit feeling calm, centred, and ready to engage in their daily activities.
