Home Events & Celebrations This week in Science
This week has seen our Tower School Scientists enjoy a wide variety of activities, from enzymes and the digestive system to specific heat capacity. What a fun week it has been!
Lantern enjoyed making their own slime; this was so much fun where the pupils gathered their equipment and mixed it all together to produce slime that they can take home if they wish. Well done to the class. Scientists of the week go to Lantern for working well together and supporting each other. Question of the week: ‘what else could I add to the slime to make it more interesting?’
Citadel watched a recreation of the digestive system using food, tights and a zip-lock bag. The class had to identify the key sections of the digestive system as the food ‘passed’ through. Well done to Citadel. Question of the week: ‘should we live without food and just have the vitamins and minerals?’
Steeple continued with their Teacher Designed Assessment. The class have worked so hard in completing the experiment and sharing their resources and results. Well done to you all. Question of the week: ‘if we were to repeat the experiment again, would you leave the lids on the cups or remove them?’
Lighthouse have been exploring specific heat capacity, what it is and how we can use it; this is a challenging concept and the class have worked hard in trying to understand it. Well done to Lighthouse. Question of the week: ‘can specific heat capacity work on cold things too?’
Obelisk worked on labelling the kidney, learning about how it functions, and if we can live with one kidney or no kidneys at all. It has been an insightful week, and the class shared their findings. Well done to Obelisk. Question of the week: ‘how long can you live with one kidney?’
Spire and Martello strengthened their understanding of the internal structure of a leaf and a flower; they learned about what each section does and why each section is equally important. Scientists of the week go to Spire and Martello for working hard, well done to you all! Question of the week: ‘if a leaf did not have the top waxy layer, would it still live?’
Fun fact: Scotland has 421 different words for ‘snow’.
