This week has seen the Tower School scientists enjoy a range of fun activities from observing bread mould in two different settings to discovering what the Human Genome Project is. Well done to all the scientists.
Lantern started on their design of their own planet. They thought very carefully about what it will look like and have started to draw their planet. Well done to Lantern. Question of the week ‘would you take things with you to your new planet, or would you make things there?’
Citadel researched different mining and extraction techniques. The class were able to share their findings and realised very quickly that these techniques are not always as environmentally friendly as they should be, and that recycling is better. Well done to Citadel. Question of the week ‘should we look to mining on other planets?’
Steeple continued their work on finding out if humans are responsible for all pollution, and their impact on climate change. Well done to Steeple for your hard work. Well done, Steeple. Question of the week ‘is climate change inevitable or have humans caused it to speed up?’
Lighthouse looked at the different types of radiation, what they are and how they work. The class were able to find out how we can be protected from this. Well done to Lighthouse. Question of the week, ‘What is nuclear radiation?’
Obelisk worked on how garden waste is part of the carbon cycle and how gardeners and farmers use it to their advantage. Well done Obelisk for working well this week. Well done Obelisk. Question of the week ‘if nothing rotted or decomposed, how long would it be until the Earth was covered in waste?
Spire and Martello explored the Human Genome Project. The class researched what it is, how it works and why it is so important to science and the development of medicines. Well done to Spire and Martello. Question of the week ‘what is DNA?’
Fun Fact: ‘Almost’ is the longest word in English with all the letters in alphabetical order.
