Preparation for Adulthood – Trip to Borough Market

On Friday 11th September, Steeple and Obelisk went to Borough Market for their first off-site PFA trip of the year. We took the train to get there, from Epping to Bank on the Central Line and then using the Northern Line to travel to London Bridge. On the journey, we spotted a Pomeranian dog being carried in a bag! When we arrived at Borough Market, we split up into two groups. Steeple’s group walked around the market, enjoying the displays of chocolate covered strawberries and the variety of juices and lemonades on offer. Libby got a strawberry lemonade at Turnip, Lexi got a (very large) pretzel and Isla got a famous sausage roll from The Black Pig. Obelisk’s group explored the market too, seeing Humble Crumble, Triple Cooked Chips and Bread Ahead. Aston got a classic brownie and Tyler, Alfie and Sam got apple juice slushies from a stall called 12 Acres. We learnt about how they grow their apples organically in Saffron Walden and press them themselves before adding them to slushy machines. We also bought two bottles of the juice to see if we might use it in our Tower School Café once we set it up in Autumn Term 2!After this, we walked to see the Golden Hinde ship before we had a relaxed lunch in a local park. Here, we also saw a squirrel eating a nut and a very sleepy pigeon who we named Cornelius II.On the way back, we took the Jubilee Line for a bit of variety. Although we did have to walk down the escalator, which was not the most pleasant experience, the journey went quickly.Back at school, we completed our reflection tasks as part of our work towards AQA Unit Award Scheme and our training and employability skills.
