Home Events & Celebrations The Allotment Project

7th May 2024

The Allotment Project

Last week marked the beginning of the Allotment Project! All pupils will have the opportunity to be involved, working collaboratively plan and organise the plot. For the first session, pupils measured out the plot and then illustrated their ideas. Once everything has been established, the whole school team will then be able to access the allotment as a novel sensory environment and regulation space.

Creating a unique allotment space provides a ‘hands-on learning’ experience, as well as fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility amongst our students. Being actively involved in planning and organising the plot, allows them to express their creativity and personal interests, whilst developing valuable skills of collaboration, problem-solving, and horticulture. An outside sensory environment and regulation space can be incredibly beneficial for pupils’ wellbeing, as it provides a calm and therapeutic space within walking distance of the school grounds. Finally, the progress of planning and creating this space together will strengthen our sense of community within the school.

We look forward to keeping you updated with our progress!
