Home Events & Celebrations In English this week

11th October 2024

In English this week

Key Stage Three

Continuing with their learning around Greek Myths and Legends, Turret identified different mythological creatures and then used this as inspiration to illustrate their own creature creations!

Our Occupational Therapist, Rachel, also came into class to support Turret with some learning activities focusing on handwriting. The pupils really enjoyed copying the shapes and cutting them out; they then used the shapes to make their own creations. Well done, excellent work!

Key Stage Four

This week, Lighthouse have been refining their knowledge and understanding of a variety of persuasive writing techniques, working diligently to apply this learning by selecting appropriate textual references from Old Major’s rousing speech in ‘Animal Farm‘. We are further practicing our reciprocal reading skills of prediction, summation, questioning and clarification, as we continue reading through the novel, meeting a diverse range of characters with complex personalities.

Key Stage Five

During our English Literature lessons, we have been analysing the thematic significance of power and conflict in relation to the concept of nature. The idea that nature has the innate ability to overpower humankind, with nature emphasising our vulnerabilities and isolations, and how this contrasts to the conflict within nature, such as harsh weather conditions fighting to defeat the intrinsic resilience and determination of wartime soldiers.
