Home Events & Celebrations In Science this week
This week has seen the Tower School scientists excel in their learning, where we have revised the circulatory system, and students have stepped into the role of ‘teacher’ relating to states of matter and body temperature.
Citadel carried out independent research into seed banks, what they are, how they can be used and why we should save plants. The class made some very good points as to why we should save species from extinction, particularly if it is man-made. Question of the week: ‘should we save all plants or only plants that give us food?’
Steeple worked on their understanding of radiation and how it can be used; we were surprised to learn that you can use radiation to preserve food. Question of the week: ‘how many different types of radiation are there?’
Lighthouse enjoyed a lesson where a pupil taught them about the states of matter. He shared the PowerPoint and described what the three states are and how they can change from one state to another. Question of the week: ‘is baking a cake chemistry?’
Obelisk researched extreme temperatures and how they affect the human body. One pupil then asked to finish teaching the lesson; it was great to see how much confidence and knowledge they were able to share with the class. Question of the week: ‘which organ controls body temperature?’
Martello and Spire continued to work hard on strengthening their knowledge of the human heart and it’s functions. One pupil did an amazing job of drawing the heart and then using a car to show how the blood travels around the circulatory system. Question of the week: ‘what would happen if the blood flowed in the opposite direction?’
Fun fact: Some seed libraries allow you to check out seeds with the intention that you will replace the seeds when your crop is harvested.
