This week, Martello pupils visited Copped Hall Trust. An impressive historical estate, where we were given a guided tour relating to history of the Victorian mansion; we learned about the building itself, how it used to look like, the social status of the family, and how the ‘servant system’ worked. We explored an extensive collection of equipment that they used in the past, including the Health and Safety of such a large estate in 1770. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to access the walled garden due to weather conditions; we will return, however, as the pupils were offered Work Experience opportunities!
Our Spire pupils travelled to King’s Cross Station using public transport. They used the automatic machine to buy tickets, used the map to follow the planned journey and they practiced reading the signs as a change on tube lines was required. Platform 9 3/4 and the adjoining Harry Potter shop was an essential stop on our journey, and somewhere that pupils had always wanted to visit…
“Today was literally a dream come true! I have always wanted to go to Kings Cross Station because I’ve never been before…the Harry Potter Shop at Platform 9 3¾ is the best place ever!” (Quote from one of our Spire pupils)
