Home Events & Celebrations The Tower School Immersive Room
In Autumn, the school’s new immersive room was open for business. Pupils have been enjoying using this room to its full potential during Speaking and Listening lessons as well as for regulation.
About our Immersive Room at The Tower School
An immersive room is a versatile educational space equipped with advanced technology, such as interactive projectors, surround sound, and sometimes virtual or augmented reality tools. It’s designed to create an engaging and interactive learning environment, offering a range of sensory experiences.
Usage in Speaking and Listening Lessons
Enhanced Engagement: The immersive room can transform traditional speaking and listening lessons by creating a dynamic setting. For example, pupils can practice storytelling in a simulated environment, like a jungle or outer space, making the experience more vivid and memorable.
Role-Playing Activities: Teachers can set up scenarios where pupils practice dialogues or presentations in various contexts, such as a news studio or a historical setting, which can help improve their communication skills and confidence.
Interactive Storytelling: Using immersive technology, pupils can participate in interactive storytelling sessions where they can influence the story’s outcome. This encourages active listening and critical thinking.
Usage for Regulation
Calming Environment: The immersive room can be used to create a soothing atmosphere with calming visuals and sounds, aiding in emotional regulation for pupils who may need a break from the school environment.
Sensory Experiences: For pupils with sensory processing needs, the room can offer controlled sensory experiences that help them regulate.
Mindfulness and Relaxation Exercises: Teachers can conduct mindfulness sessions or guided relaxation exercises using the immersive room’s capabilities, helping pupils to focus and reduce stress.
Additional Benefits
Cross-Curricular Opportunities: The immersive room can be used for a wide range of subjects beyond speaking and listening, such as science, where pupils can explore ecosystems or the solar system in an interactive manner.
Inclusive Learning: The technology can be adapted to meet the needs of all pupils, providing accessible and differentiated learning experiences.
