Last Friday, pupils from Martello and Obelisk enjoyed another Preparation for Adulthood trip to Westfield, where they took part in a hands-on work experience session at Lush.
Pupils made their own bath product by following instructions and working to a set specification. They did a great job listening carefully, following all safety guidelines, and using gloves and goggles while working with the different ingredients. What was interesting was the use of seaweed glitter, particularly how it floated into the air around us as we worked… I hope this explains to everyone why we were very glittery still on our return to school!
After all the making was done, pupils explored the shop and learned more about the wide range of products on offer, including soaps, make-up, bath bombs and fragrances. Staff talked to us about self-care, personal hygiene, and how natural ingredients are used in their products and why each is beneficial. We also learnt more about how staff talk to customers about the products in order to help them find the best one for their needs.
We were proud of how the pupils got involved by asking questions and interacting with the products to learn more about what it’s like to work in a shop like this one. It was a creative, engaging experience and a great opportunity for pupils to build confidence, independence and employability skills.
