Preparing for Adulthood

For our final Preparation for Adulthood trip of Spring 1 Term, Martello and Obelisk classes enjoyed a visit to New City College, Epping Forest Campus. The trip gave pupils a valuable insight into college life and the wide range of opportunities available to them in the future.

During our visit, we toured a variety of impressive facilities across the campus. Pupils were particularly excited to see the canteen, which even has its own Costa Coffee shop! We also explored the Learning Zone, where students can access additional English and maths support to help them achieve their goals.

The visit allowed us to experience a number of specialist curriculum areas. In Hair and Beauty, pupils learned about the professional training environments, while in Travel and Tourism they had the opportunity to sit inside the department’s mock ‘plane’ cabin. The Art and Design department showcased its creative spaces, including a ceramics and pottery studio. We also visited Construction, where students train in practical plumbing and electrical skills.

The Wellness Centre impressed everyone with its state-of-the-art gym and basketball court. There was also time to see some of the social spaces too, including the Common Room, which features a gaming area, sound system, pool table and table football; a great place for students to relax and socialise. We have been invited back to spend some time in the Common Room in the future, which we are looking forward to!

The visit was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to experience a real college environment, ask questions, and begin thinking about their next steps with greater confidence and enthusiasm. We are very proud of how respectfully and thoughtfully Martello and Obelisk represented our school throughout the visit and look forward to updating you on the Spring 2 Term trips and visits!
