Home Events & Celebrations Preparing For Adulthood – Hackney Farm / Young V&A
Last Friday, Martello and Obelisk classes enjoyed a fantastic Preparation for Adulthood trip to Hackney City Farm and the Young V&A.
On arrival at Hackney City Farm, we began our morning at the café, where many pupils confidently navigated the menu, placed their own orders and paid independently. This was a brilliant opportunity to practise important communication and money handling skills in a real life setting.
Once inside the farm, we were excited to see a range of animals up close, including newborn goats, piglets and chicks. It was a wonderful experience to observe the animals and learn more about how they are cared for in an urban farm environment. Seeing the baby animals was definitely a highlight of the morning!
After exploring the farm, we walked together to the Young V&A. The journey itself provided valuable opportunities to develop road safety awareness, teamwork and independence as we navigated through an unfamiliar area of London.
At the Young V&A Museum, pupils explored a variety of creative and interactive exhibitions. One popular activity was the chance to play Minecraft, where several pupils proudly demonstrated their skills! The cabinets displaying first editions of well-known board games, the dolls houses and the fascinating exhibition showing the ‘evolution of the scooter’ were particular favourites.
After enjoying lunch at the museum, we made our way back to school, reflecting on a busy and successful day. We are seeing our pupils becoming more confident and independent and are having such fun on PFA trips. We look forward to updating you again next week!
