Home Events & Celebrations Preparation for Adulthood
Last Friday, as part of Preparation for Adulthood , Year 12 and 13 pupils visited Lathcoats Farm. During the visit, pupils took part in an engaging Animal Meet and Greet session and quickly got involved in a range of hands-on activities. They fed the alpacas, brushed the Shetland ponies, interacted with the goats, and worked in small groups to help train the pigs. A particular highlight was spending time with the newborn lambs.
Following this, pupils carried out Animal Behaviour Observations, completing ethograms and analysing behaviour in relation to animal welfare as part of their AQA Unit Award Scheme work. The group also enjoyed visiting the farm café and shop, where local produce is sold, including jams made from berries on the farm and honey from the beekeepers.
We were extremely impressed by the pupils’ independence, enthusiasm and hard work throughout the trip and have been kindly invited back and hope to arrange another visit in the Autumn Term. We look forward to updating you again next week!
